Venue selection is a very important task that plays a part in the overall success of your event. Other than the usual factors like, cost, capacity, security, parking, and accessibility. I decided to look out of the box and put together 5 factors that need consideration.

1.  Suitability – The venue should fit the company’s image and also match what you want to portray to your guests. It should also be in line with the type of event you are hosting; for example hosting a high energy party in a board room set up will not work.

2.  Ambiance – Pay special attention to the existing decor inside the venue. The less the ambiance matches the desired feeling of your event (upscale, high end, etc.) the more decorating you’ll need to do to make up for it.

3.  Room Acoustics – Acoustics is just a fancy word for how sound travels through the venue. A low ceiling will make the venue seem cozy, but it will make it louder if it’s packed. Alternatively, a large warehouse-style venue will result in echoes, or what architects refer to as “reverberation”. It takes a good A/V team to sort this out.

4.  Access to Wi-Fi – Make sure that you have a Wi-Fi connection that the attendee can use to download your event app, or engage with your event via social media. With the connected world today, having no access to Internet would not help in your guest’s experience.

5.  Feedback & Reviews – Before you sign any papers, check for feedback on the venue. Read the reviews that other event planners have left. Reading these reviews or word-of-mouth can also tell you what to expect
